Interactive or Interaction?
Logically the title of this page should have been
Interaction Design, however “Interactive” has been chosen for want of a more
commonly used term in my line of business.
Although often associated with the design of system interfaces in a variety of media, true Interaction design addresses the task on developing the system to respond to the user´s experience and not the other way around. Basic principles of cognitive psychology provide the groundwork for effective interaction design. Affordances, interface metaphors, mapping and mental models are some of the principles used.
As in any communication design project, the emphasis should be on the “desired user experience”. And design evaluation should be in terms of usability and affective influence.
